Dr. Long Pham Files Papers-Becomes Official Candidate in 72nd Assembly District

Accomplished community leader with strong educational and energy background becomes strong candidate to represent Orange County seat.

(Fountain Valley, CA) – Today, 72nd Assembly District GOP contender Dr. Long Pham announced the official filing of papers for his campaign for State Assembly, making him an official candidate for this safe Republican seat. The Fountain Valley nuclear engineer called for renewing California’s commitment to limited government and fostering economic growth to reduce burdensome regulations that are undermining entrepreneurs and small businesses.

“I have a track record of success in cutting burdensome regulations and knowing how important it is to create jobs for our citizens,” said Pham. “I know we can get this economy growing again by fixing the problems Sacramento has created. My career has been all about identifying problems and fixing them; I’m excited to get this campaign underway.”

Dr. Pham’s public service background is a testament to conservative principles. He has served as an elected member of the Orange County Board of Education since 2008 and was appointed by former Governor Pete Wilson to the Regulatory Reform Roundtable Task Force in 1996, which enabled him to repeal 3900 outdated regulations and simplify over 1700 more. He was elected nationwide as Vice President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers from 2000-2003.

In 1988, Dr. Pham formed Fullerton Engineering and was hired by Rockwell International after the Challenger disaster to create the pressure vessel certification program that improved safety for NASA. He then conducted the final certification of the new shuttle Endeavour in 1992. Following the success of that project, Dr. Pham joined Southern California Edison (SCE) as a nuclear engineer. Since he joined SCE, Dr. Pham has served as a founder and president of the Vietnamese Affinity Group to connect the company with the Vietnamese community.
